Position Overview

Family Planning Council, a large, well-regarded not-for-profit human services agency in downtown Philadelphia, is seeking a Peer Support Specialist with The SafeGuards Project. The specialist will be responsible for conducting health promotion outreach activities and client recruitment. The position will require late night evening and weekend availability. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with diverse populations; excellent listening and social skills; comfort and ability to engage LGBTQ individuals; ability to work without direct supervision and the ability to work as a team. Primary job responsibilities include:

  • Engage LGBTQ persons at outreach venues and online.
  • Recruit individuals to participate in collaborative programs and pre-treatment activities.
  • Facilitate logistics for health promotion presentations/health fairs.
  • Co-facilitate health promotion workshops and/or discussion sessions.
  • Facilitate client linkage to substance abuse assessment and linkage to HIV testing and STD screening.
Requirements
  • Completion of Department of Behavioral Health Certified Peer Specialist training.
  • Demonstrated experience in mental health, harm reduction, substance use, from a recovery and resiliency perspective.
  • Experience working with LGBTQ populations required.
  • Prior experience in health promotion and community based outreach preferred.
  • Familiarity with Philadelphia and its communities.
