Position Overview:
Family Planning Council, a large, well-regarded not-for-profit human services agency in downtown Philadelphia, is seeking a Lead Peer Counselor for the Family Planning Program in the Circle of Care Department. This candidate will integrate HIV prevention messages and activities into the family planning setting. The successful candidate will be a team player who can work in a multi-cultural environment and is proficient in the provision of risk reduction counseling sessions; the administration of rapid HIV Testing technologies. Primary job responsibilities include:
- Implement HIV/AIDS prevention activities and services throughout the provider network.
- Provide practical information and educational opportunities around risk reduction and HIV and STD prevention to clients referred by family planning providers.
- Provide practical information and education in conjunction with providers and case management staff to newly diagnosed and known HIV positive individuals.
- Participate in training and staff development as required.
- Represent Circle of Care at local and national project meetings, staff meetings, and provider meetings.
Requirements:
- Must have 3+ years HIV prevention experience and at least 1+ year providing family planning services, peer counseling or STD prevention messages.
- Must have High School Diploma or GED
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and must be computer literate.
- Must have reliable transportation and travel throughout Southeastern, PA (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties).
- Knowledge of Spanish, French or any of the African dialects advantageous.
