Nurse Practitioner Program Activities


OB/GYN Nurse Program

This 10 month distance-learning course is accredited by the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health. Students spend two weeks at the beginning of the course, one week midway and one week at the end on site in Philadelphia. The remainder of the time is spent in their home communities performing in a supervised clinical environment as a student nurse practitioner, participating in online classroom discussions, and completing course work. Graduates receive a certificate of course completion and are eligible to take the National Certification Corporation. Those with a baccalaureate degree in nursing can matriculate at designated graduate schools of nursing, receive full academic credit for their course work at the PPFA NP Program, take 5 to 6 core courses at the university, and earn a Master of Science in Nursing degree.

Colposcopy Education

Twice a year the program offers a post graduate colposcopy education course for experienced NPs, CNMs, MDs, DOs and PAs.
Course participants spend one week in Philadelphia learning in the classroom and practice lab. After returning to their home site they complete 100 colposcopic examinations that are directly supervised by and experienced colposcopist. Successful completion of a written and oral final examination leads to a certificate of course completion.This course is recognized by the education committee of the Americam Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP).

Annual Post Graduate Seminar

Each February the PPFA NP Program offers a 2 ? day continuing education conference in Philadelphia that focuses on the clinical, political, profession and personal needs of clinicians who work in women's health care. Two concurrent day-long pre-conference workshops offer additional learning opportunities.


Specialty Courses

These are week-long courses designed for clinicians to increase their knowledge and skills on topics relevant to reproductive health care. Each on site course is followed by a five-week online discussion that focuses on case studies and sharing information.
